PaceFeedSignature

Abstract

Adds support for the atom:security element as an optional child of atom:feed. The intent is provide a container within which digital signatures over the feed content and/or encryption keys may be stored. For instance, should an entries content be considered priviledged, the feed publisher may wish to encrypt that content and store, within the atom:security element the information necessary to allow the intended reader the means to decrypt. Or, should the publisher wish to generate an digital signature over the feed and its contents, the atom:security element could be used as the container for such a signature. Examples of the types of content the atom:security element may contain include XML digital signatures, WS-Security security tokens ([ref|http://www-106.ibm.com/developerworks/webservices/library/ws-secure/#majorhead4]), KeyInfo elements, etc. (Proposed by JamesSnell)

Proposal

4.x "atom:security" Element

The "atom:security" element is a Content construct that may be used to convey security-related information about the feed and/or entries. The semantics of the element are entirely dependent on the type of content contained. An atom:feed element MAY contain multiple atom:security elements.

The atom:security element SHOULD be used to convey machine-readable security-related information.
