Discussion of NameFinalVote
With some objections None of The Above is now a valid choice for NameFinalVote, talk about the impact and benifits at NoneOfTheAboveDiscuss
Allowing None Of The Above Votes
[JesseJamesGarrett] Until someone puts forth a convincing argument why these votes should be counted, they don't belong in NameFinalVote.
-
[MarkPilgrim] These votes are absolutely legitimate. They are write-in votes that state in no uncertain terms that we don't like any of the names, and want another round of voting with new names.
-
[TomasJogin] Is it "absolutely legitimate" to introduce more ballot options now, too, or was yours an exception?
[NickChalko] Leave "none of the above" on the NameFinalVote page, if it gets a plurality we will start over.
[TomasJogin] What's the point?
[BryantDurrell] Convincing to who? (This is not meant as a snide question.) What's the criteria for "convincing"? I believe that using a wiki sets the expectation that everything is subject to refactoring until consensus emerges; there's no point after which one's voice becomes unimportant to the consensus. This may be unfortunate, but it is a consequence of using a completely eglitarian discussion system.
[JesseJamesGarrett] Why should a vote for "none of the above" -- a vote against the current voting process -- be considered a legitimate vote, since the time for discussion of the process has come and gone? Moreover, why should anyone be permitted to add options to the ballot after the vote is already underway?
-
[SingingBanzo] Because the names proposed are not so good and I failed to come with a better one before? I think NOTA could be a good end to this history, with something meaningfull ("nota" is Spanish for "note", and one of various traslation of "post"), and a spontaneous and funny origin.
Anyway, I recognize the time of name proposal is over, it's ok to me if you take away the idea, but I had to ask, perhaps anyone liked it.
[JesseJamesGarrett] Banzo, my comment was more about the sudden appearance of "none of the above", which seemed to indicate that it was okay for anyone to modify the choices available on the ballot.
[jayseae] Once I noticed the "none of the above" vote, it seemed much more appropriate, so I changed to it. I don't expect the results of the vote to be thrown out or anything of the kind. Just didn't want to vote for the options, and wanted it known that votes were being cast agains the current choices. As to why I didn't speak up earlier? Didn't have the chance - only recently found my way to the wiki and figured out how to use it. Definitely not anyone else's problem, but that's why.
