Fade to white

Despite my pleas, the number of subscribers to my radio feed is actually increasing. I don't want to force when everybody switches their subscriptions over to intertwingly, but perhaps a little good old fashioned social engineering might help...

if adritemcache^.when > date.set(14,10,2002,0,0,0) {
local(contrast=string.mid(string.hex(255-(date.set(1,1,2003,0,0,0)-adritemcache^.when)/26700),5,2));
add ("
<div style="color:#" + contrast + contrast + contrast + "">" + adritemcache^.text + "</div>
")}
else {
add ("
" + adritemcache^.text + "
")}

One problem might be that the #1 Sam Ruby on Google is at radio.weblogs.com - maybe you should replace your radio homepage w/ a redirect.

Gordon, the HTML page doesn't bother me as much. It will stick around, and will contain a textual forward message at some time, with perhaps a meta tag.

What concerns me more is the subscribers. I updated the XML and coffee mug subscriptions to point to my new feed, yet the subscriptions to my radio feed continue to increase.

I suspect people are getting the address from http://radio.weblogs.com/ , which lists you by name and gives your old address. I believe this list is auto-generated by aggreagating subscriptions of Radio users.

Meanwhile, have I mentioned recently that entity-encoded HTML is EVIL EVIL EVIL. You think your little hack is funny, but it's only a matter of time before big-name producers start including popup ads in their RSS feeds.

Hey, I just realized that *I* am still subscribed to your old feed. Oops. My aggregator converts HTML to formatted text, though, so your little color trick wouldn't work on me. Not updating it anymore would get my attention, though, eventually.

ooOOOooh. P o p - U p s. Now THERE's an idea...

Change the template on that Radio page, if you can, to contain a link meta tag to use the new feed.

<link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="RSS" href="http://radio.weblogs.com/0101679/rss.xml">

<link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="RSS" href="http://www.intertwingly.net/blog/index.rss">

But if you can't get to the old page because Radio expired I suppose you're out of luck.

Attack of the Formatting Phantom

It's amazing what a few rogue HTML tags can do when put in the wrong place. I had attempted to post some of Jon Udell's description of InfoPath. In the process of editing his HTML in the Radio UserLand in-browser editor, I missed a few...
