It’s just data

Paul Downey: So Planet Interwingly just saved me 120CHF!

To be fair, ISO just saved Paul 120CHF.  Paul just found out about it via Rick Jelliffe, xml.com, and Planet Interwingly.

While I am pleased to have played a small part in this, that isn’t what I had set out to do.  Planet Intertwingly started out as a test bed so that I could see how Atom 1.0 was being practiced in the wild.  Much to my surprise the combined feed that it produces seems to have over 250 subscribers.

I’m even getting feature requests, and to make the page more Greasemonkey friendly, I’ve added class names on the outer divs reflecting the source of the news item.  Hopefully, some of the best changes will improve the precision of some of the css hacks I have in place (search for Accomodations).

Have you considered using hAtom for the markup of the Planet?  Seems like a good fit for your Atom playground.

I’ve looked at it briefly.  Once somebody shows an innovative application that makes use of such data, I’ll gladly do it (and no, “see I can subscribe to his HTML page and get almost as much data as is in his feed” isn’t compelling enough for me).  I’d also gladly merge in any changes if somebody else was willing to do the work.

This wasn’t even the first time the link to ISO publicly available standards has been in Planet Intertwingly. :-)
