MeMeme Deployed
Look in the top right of my Planet Intertwingly and OPML Top 100.
The net effect of this function is to pluck items out of the raging rapids that a river of news can often become. These items tend to reflect subjects that are important to the people that you subscribe to. At your leisure, you can go back and check on the cosmos of these items to see what people outside of your immediate subscription list are saying about these items.
As with any automated method, there will be some false matches. Additionally, the code could to a better job of identifying “clusters” of posts.
For those interested in the implementation details, my plans are to convert this into a Venus template which will produce memes.json. The remainder is handled by AJAX and CSS
Pedants will note that this output doesn’t yet precisely conform to JSON as single quoting is often used.
Is there a memes feed?
Not yet, for pretty much the same reason why there isn’t yet a template - I need to work more on things like etags and caching, which as a side effect will allow me to track concepts such as identity and updated.
When done, that may very well invert the whole thing - instead of there being JSON output, the AJAX code may be updated to consume and present a meme feed. The general result would be the ability to place sidebars on a page based on a feed - a not uncommon requirement.
