I was a railsconf nonconformist — #26 in fact — and I wasn’t using ubuntu. I have a linux-from-scratch installation on my laptop computer, because nothing else is hard-core enough for me.

Eh, I’m not sure that’s entirely accurate, I’m sure there were other distributions floating around besides Ubuntu. Er, by which I mean maybe 1 or 2 of them. But I think the vast majority of the non-conformists were on the trailing edge.
Sadly, I was an uncertified conformist. Let me know when someone writes a port/rip-off of TextMate that runs on Ubuntu. Actually... let me know when someone writes a port of ZFS for Ubuntu.
