Periodical Cicada

cicada Robert Scoble: The blogosphere is a passion chamber.  This comes as the echos of Scoble's piece on persuasion die down.

I'll go on record as being a skeptic on the persuasion piece.  The secret of acting is sincerity. Once you have learnt to fake that, you're made.  'nuff said.

Passion comes closer to the mark for me.  It perfectly captures the William Hung aspect of blogging.

When I was a nine year old boy in the suburbs of Washington DC, it was a joy to be invaded by hoards of cicadas.  They were totally scary looking yet completely harmless.  Seventeen years later, the experience with my wife was completely different.  Next month, they will be back.  This creates a connection between different points in my life.  A personal connection.

So... let's all converge on this site and experience vicariously the simple joy of a person who is clearly passionate about cicadas.

"They were totally scary looking yet completely harmless. ... the experience with my wife was completely different."

I wouldn't write about my wife in those terms. Definitely not in a public forum.

Thanks to Sam, I now know what Cicadas are. Imagine being buried (or asleep if you prefer) for 17 years and then emerging to witness the year 2004. Makes you think....... [more]

There was lots of them and there weren't doing much accept hagging on the tree's but it was really cool because I am 13 and this is my first time seeing them. Me and my class went outside for bay studies and we saw shells of them all over the tree's and then we also saw some real ones. Another time I saw one is when I was playing basketball with my friend one flew by.
