Interesting that you start this on the 20th year anniversary of Sony's BetaMax. I just finished setting up our own mythtv box at home with Avermedia M179 instead, there's some tips out there that aren't highlighted. Make sure to check the sample set up suggestions in the set up guide before you start, and I think the way  KnoppMyth sets up the /myth file system is handy.

I nearly purchased a Hauppage card this weekend.  Those MythTV screenshots look awfully cool, and though TiVo is pretty hackable, the hardware isn't too powerful.  But do I have the time?  I'll be interested to hear what becomes of your purchase -- I hope you'll post a followup or two as you get the system together.

I've been thinking about adding syndication support to MythTV so that it can subscribe to sites that produce video content and autodownload the files to watch.  The only way for expressing this I've found is with RSS2's enclosures.  But the lack of tools and the umm ... controversy around RSS2 make  me want to find another format.  Anyone have any suggestions on this?
