Sam, it did work. Pinged your blog's homepage instead of this post. The pingback wasn't registered after editing my post to link here... I guess you only allow one entry per url?

Does anyone know how to send pingbacks with movabletype?
Sam, if it's true that only the first pingback from the sourceURI gets registered, we've got a small problem:
If I link to the wrong post on your weblog, and then edit my post to point to the correct post, then the 'correct' pingback isn't registered...
Maybe it's wiser to allways overwrite any previous pingbacks from a specific sourceURI?
Excerpt test: I hadn't added the <link rel="alternate".. stuff to the correct Radio template. Duh. Try again. Ok, let's ping this again. Try try ...

Hi Sam,
My first attempt didn't work, because I added the <link rel=".. stuff to the wrong Radio template. I've corrected that now (hopefully), but the second try will not register - as mentioned above.

Ok...so it does work :-). I used a second posting - so that seems to work fine. That's really cool!

Tim: you can't pingback my main page - it is not pingback enabled. If you check, you will find that it does not have any of requisite HTTP headers or link tags defined on it.
My individual posts are pingback enabled. I only allow one pingback per (source/target) pair, so one source can ping multiple targets (either initially, or over time), and a target can be pinged by multiple sources.
I'm kinda leery of the overwriting concept, but I will consider it.
Pingback now with excerpts. If things go according to plan, the next time I get a Pingback, I will attempt to extract an excerpt from the item from the weblog's associated RSS feed. Anybody care to test this out? Ping this item... [Sam ...

The great discussions on the topic of TrackBack and open interfaces carry on. On my suggestion, Rael Dornfest implements comments in Blosxom with TrackBack. Sam Ruby experiments with PingBack by adding excerpts prompting me to revisit the PingBack v. TrackBack argument. I'm brimming with enthusiasm for where this is all leading....
